My second post which should have been my first

Doh…

Not for the first time in my online life, I need to start again.

I posted something here last week without introducing myself, which I am told is a mistake. My wife sighed… again.

So…

I am Dominic Holland. A stand-up comedian who also writes, which is not such a leap, I know. I have been at the comedy coal face for over thirty years, with some lofty highs interspersing some protracted lows.

I have written 10 books, mainly novels and many thousands of comic stories and essays. My books have been reviewed in national newspapers, won awards and recommended by people whose opinions I admire, but to date, not bought by enough people. This is a source of both amusement and mild despair, depending on my day.

I have four sons, which is unusual anyway, but even more so since the eldest has become unusually successful and well-known. I mention this because it is part of my story. He outgunned my showbiz career before he was a teenager. I wrote a memoir about it. It’s called Eclipsed.

But I remain a man of the people, and I write about everyday life, with a nod to the peculiar and absurd. I ask hard-hitting questions like, when should we wash a towel, and when is an onion finally peeled? I recently bought a painting of a cow, and paid too much for it on purpose, because the artist deserved it.

Every Sunday morning, something lands here. Some weeks, it will be a polished essay. Others, a half-formed thought with potential to evolve. All of it will be true, if embellished. Most of it will be funny. Occasionally, it will be wise. It will always be warm and heartfelt, and it will never be a waste of your time.
